Flickering candle

Who am I
I am the essence of yesterday
the beginning of tomorrow
and the dreams of things that will never be.
I am like the flickering of a clouded memory
a lighted candle in the wind.
I am the light that shines in the blackness -
and a narrative within your minds eye
a sound you can not hear.
Yet somehow you know that I am there.
That I am here.
I am your shadow.
